Good for the ears (& wallet)

There’s no free lunch in this world, but there’s high-quality music at affordable prices. Most used items cost a fraction of brand-new items, with comparable or even the same playback quality as brand-new items. Brand-new vinyls especially are unfortunately prohibitively expensive. With used CDs and vinyls. you can expand your music collection without breaking the bank.

In addition, some titles are simply not available new. It will be a major challenge to find newly produced Sadao Watanabe’s records, Forrest Gump’s soundtrack CD , or Jaye-ze & Linkin Park’s Encore CD. All fabulous items that deserve a place in a collection of an avid fan.

Good for mother earth

If you bury your CDs or vinyls in your backyard today, your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren can dig them up and write a report for their archeology class homework. That is because CDs and vinyls, if improperly disposed, can take hudreds of years to decompose in landfills. They long to be close to you, not dumped in landfills.

Even better, you will breathe new lives into items that may have been destined for the dark underworld, never to see the light ever again. A new life with a new purpose, a new home, a new opportunity to impress keen ears eager for new discoveries.

Yet, not all used CDs and vinyls are created equal. Our little tips when hunting for your favorite albums:

  1. Know the conditions of the items you will be buying, especially for vinyl. Buy from a reputable shop that is honest about the conditions of their items and is happy to stand behind their products, with no questions asked when issues arise. When you buy a VG+ album, you should get one with very minor scratches that do not affect playback. You SHOULD NOT be getting something that has definitely seen better days and/or been used to serve dinners for canines or felines in its previous life.
  2. Clean them well. Vinyls, especially, may require additional cleaning which would be the difference between a complaint-filled disappointment or a joy-filled addition to your collection. CDs, on the other hand, are not so susceptible to dirt and molds. They are eyesores, but they won’t affect the sound quality. However molds can damage CDs in the long run, so it is wise to clean any off the disc (windex is a great and economical way)
  3. Store them well. There is no way to tell what the used CDs or vinyls you just bought have been through, but you can assure them that they are now in good hands. Humidity, heat, and sunlight are the three things these used CDs and vinyls will beg their lives to stay away from.
