Aktiv Square, Impact Muang Thong.
It was raining cats and dogs. My friends and I had our raincoats on. The opening acts had just wrapped up, and we waited eagerly on the concert ground while our favorite band was setting up. And then, the music started. Brad Delson’s guitar screamed like thunders, Joe Hahn started the scratching, and out came Chester Bennington with his voice piercing through the air.
We were so stoked, my friend roared and tore up his raincoat (and minutes later it poured again!) Linkin Park rocked the place, and I still get goosebumps every time I think of that awesome performance.
The first Linkin Park song I ever heard was “In The End” performed by an acapella group at our university. I thought the song was so cool, I looked it up immediately who the artist was. I was starting to become a fan.
In December 2005, I got a hold of Jaye-Z/Linkin Park Collision Course. Not a big hip hop fanmyself, I had doubts when I first picked it up. The mash-up of the two genres was not just seamless, it was phenomenal. It really got me hooked. I played that CD in my car for months. The music brought some semblance of life to the dull, dark, and cold Boston winter. That CD is extremely beat up now, but it had a good life. It made me a big big fan of Linkin Park.
The next CD I got a hold of was “Live In Texas”. Man, I wish I was there at that concert! They sure kicked some serious ass. I like to put that album on when I go out for a run.
Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of Linkin Park’s later albums. After “Minutes to Midnight”, I found their songs to be a bit dry and lacked the energy and creativity of the first three albums.
Yet Linkin Park is still Linkin Park. Chester Bennington will be forever remembered and missed. And every time “Somewhere I Belong”, “Numb”, or “In the End” is played, I still remember that rainy night in Aktiv Square that we bounced up and down as Linkin Park rocked Bangkok.
My favorite albums:
Collision Course (Jaye-Z/Linkin Park)
Live In Texas
